2013. Wild Kitchen Days!

ENG | Two full days of really Wild Cooking with a WILD KITCHEN PARTY on Saturday evening.
The Urban Ecology Centre and Kitchen Party will be organising workshops in cooking with wild plants that can be foraged in our local environment – those plants too often regarded as weeds. In Nature, there’s no such thing as a weed and many of the plants we consider to be weeds are actually food for free, recognised by our ancestors as a major contribution to a nutritionally stable diet.
The workshops will start at 11am on both days with cooking sessions and foraging trips into the woods, vegetable gardens and hidden wild spots in the neighbourhood. We will glean hawthorne, comfrey, borrage, and ground elder among other wild plants that can be foraged and consumed in August. These plants have been used for centuries to create medicines and included in books about magicians’ brews. And they are delicious! Many of these plants are still abundant in Nature and some are even considered to be invasive. Therefore, the best way to deal with them is to satisfy our stomachs and our thirst for knowledge.
